Get away with an epic house party!

There are many things to consider when hosting a big get together from who to invite, how to build a guest list, the theme, the music, the food, the layout of the party, and most importantly..how to pull off the BIGGEST house party of the year without getting caught!  I am here to break down the key essential parts to consider in order to have a successful house party...and it really is not that hard ;]

Step 1: Consider if your house is capable of holding a large party.

•  If you live in a decently sized house where you can comfortably host 20-30 people, you sir have what it takes to pull this off..great start. 

• Are there areas in the house that you do not want people to enter such as your parents bedroom,  parents office, brothers/sisters bedroom, etc?.....If you do, find a way where you can lock their doors but easily access it later on.  

• Will your music playing produce a lot of echoing in the house?......This could be the result of hard wood flooring bouncing the sound around.  Carpet is ideal since it acts as a sound dampener.  

• How cool are your neighbors letting you have parties?.....There are many ways to judge this, one way is to see what kind of parties they throw, if they throw loud parties too then your party can be just as loud as theirs since they're used to it.  If they're conservative neighbors, writing a letter to them would be a great way to let them know in advance that there is going to be a lot of noise. (Ill attach a sample letter) 

Step 2: "Marketing" your party to your friends

• This is an important step to getting your party "seen in the scene".  Facebook Event Invitations is a great way to Blast information about your epic party to your friends. 

• Adding pictures on your Event post is a great way to add excitement to the party.  Pictures can include an inside joke that your friends might be apart of that might remind them of having fun or drinking. A picture of a drinking movie or meme, anything that will grab their attention either be it by laughter and/or anticipation. 

• Post the Facebook Invitations at least 1.5 - 2 months in advance.  You need a good amount of time to let all your friends find out about it, as well as create that buzz around school.  If its too late, friends won't have time to take off work, hear it from their friends, or worse not take it seriously!..let time be on your side, let it sink in with your friends.

• Provide weekly updates on Facebook about new additions to the party such as a DJ playing at your party, or the type of food/beverages thats being served.  Remember to stretch these posts leading up to the big event.  This keeps people on their toes.

Step 3: Party Layout

• The layout of your house party should help maximize space for dancing, drinking and having fun.  

• Remove any expensive lamps, picture frames, paintings, vases, etc. 

• Take pictures of anything you move so that when you're putting everything back you know how everything was positioned.....LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. 

Step 4: Food and Beverages

• Ask friends to bring something to the party (ie. cups, plates, beverages and food) ...it makes it easier for you, saves you money, and you will be surprised at what they actually bring!

• Set up a food and beverage list on your Facebook invite page listing who is going to bring what to the party.  This makes sure that you will have everything for the party.

• Make sure you have an array of drinks at the party.  Girls and guys have their favorite drinks and you want them to feel comfortable at your party.  Sweet champagne always works for everyone as well as vodka shots!

Step 5: Entertainment 

• Providing entertainment at your party is key to a successful party.  Things like drinking games (beer pong, flipcup, beer bongs, etc.)

• If you have a friend who can bring their DJ rig to the party that is a huge plus!

• If you have amateur photographer friends ask them if they want to go around and take pictures of the party.  It saves you the trouble of having to take out your camera phone.  Remember..you'll be too busy having fun!

Step 6: Noise Control/ Crowd Control

• During the party assess the level of noise by going outside to hear how loud it is.

• If it is too loud let your friends know that the cops can show up anytime so keep that in mind.

• Having a cap on the amount of people showing up is crucial.  It is best to inform your friends that they cannot invite people you don't know or plus ones unless authorized.  

Step 7:  Be a Great Host

• Remember that you invited all these people to your party and as a host make sure people are comfortable, having enough to eat and drink.
